Goodreads Review
Fantastic! A very eye-opening account of a soldier’s time in the Vietnam War. The personality of the main character really shines through as he vividly describes his experiences and relationships with others in his company.
Amazon Review - Bad Moon Rising
Thrust from Kansas to Vietnam, McCaskill’s masterfully written narrative documents one man’s experiences of war through his daily journal. Evoking all of your senses and emotions, you cannot escape the extreme conditions or horrors of war. His efforts to survive are balanced with humor, normalcy with civilians, and familiar references back to “The World”. Hits you right in the heart. Must read.
Amazon Review - Great Book!
If you're interested in what life is like for a draftee who finds himself in the middle of the Vietnam jungle, put this on your must-read list.
Amazon Review - An excellent read
A Tour of Duty, written as a day by day account of a draftee in the Vietnam War, contains such vivid descriptions the reader can nearly feel the humidity, heat, exhaustion and fear. It gives the reader an understanding of what our troops had to endure and an appreciation for humor during horrible times.
Amazon Review - Brilliantly written
This was a great read. It's honest and very real. It doesn't glorify war but does a wonderful job of telling the story of a kid we sent to war.
Goodreads Review
I am a biased reader. However, I do not let my bias influence me in recommending this book. I am proud to see this book published after existing as a manuscript for five decades in the author's home. I personally know the author and at his request, I was honored to write the foreword for A Tour of Duty. Few authors have the ability to factually describe the Vietnam War from an infantry sergeant's perspective. That's the way it was.
